Hey everyone, just joined the forum yesterday and this is my first post. I live in Lexington Park and own a red 2005 GTO.
I've lived in Calvert County since late 1996 and moved to Florida early last year. After spending a little over a year in Florida I realized the area I that was in wasn't for me and I had a great job opportunity waiting for me up here so I just got moved back up here in the area back in May of this year.
I don't daily drive the GTO (I use my beater '96 Taurus SHO), so you locals won't see it too often. Some of you may have seen it around though since I've been back in town, but it only gets taken out here and there. I love to drag race though... I spent a lot of time at MIR with my '04 GTO that I used to own, and while down in Florida I made plenty of passes at both Gainesville and Bradenton in my current '05.
Street racing is something I try strongly to avoid, and I very much like to keep my racing strictly at the track. I don't need any trouble with the law, plus my car has traction problems on the street even when I swap my Mickey Thompsons on the rear so it's kinda pointless for me, thankfully. I can get along with pretty much anybody, but I don't care for the ignorant import (or even domestic) crowd. Not that I don't like imports-- I just don't care for ignorant people. Nothing annoys me more than someone with a 1973 Civic, with a 5" fart can and an intake thinking that they're fast. Same thing goes with fellow domestic owners, but there just seems to be a little less of that sort of ignorance from the domestic crowd. But again, I get along with anyone that has the passion for performance and I'm not the kind of person that has a "big head" or anything.
I should be making quite a few appearances back at MIR starting later this summer and on through the winter. I had my car tuned down in Tampa and it's been running a bit rich now that I have it up here in Md, and it's hitting the rev limiter on the 2-3 upshift before going into gear (auto trans), which it never did before so I have to get a re-tune here soon before I start running it hard again. But you'll still catch me driving it around once in a while in the meantime.
Well I hope to see some of you around, and if you all see me driving feel free to say "hey" or something.
-Andrew

Every weekend? Nice haha. I'm gonna wait til it cools back down some, and I need to go on days that they lay down VHT. Track prep this past Friday kinda blew. I managed to squeeze out a couple 1.53x 60's but had to ease into it on the launch and still had a little spin. Do they sray VHT on Sundays?? Or only for actual events? I miss Gainesville and Bradenton... VHT any and every night!
So what's the race car? Is that the Integra or do you race something else as well?
MIR always sprays down VHT... I've never had traction problems

I don't think they do it on Friday nights though, do they?? This past Friday at MIR was the sloppiest bunch of launches that this car has made in the past 20+ passes I've done with it. My best launch Friday was stalling up to only 1600 RPM and working my way into full throttle off the line. I can usually leave at 2100-2200 RPM and not have to work into the throttle hardly. My Mickey's were bald from my last track day back in January though, so a new set should take care of the traction issues I hope.

800whp?? niiiiiice... that's gotta be sick! I don't fuck with riding bikes though. My buddy hit a deer on one 2 months ago, and wrecked under the Solomons bridge 2 days ago. Too damn dangerous for me haha.

Welcome, nice looking GTO. I used to have a 96 SHO as well, made a decent daily driver.
Thanks, thanks! Yeah Gen III SHO's aren't all too bad. I started off with a '92 SHO back in 2004. It was an MTX and I modded the piss out of it. Did a 3.2 swap.. using a very low mileage 3.2 block and had the cylinders bored out to 93mm (3.3 liters). Threw is some custom Diamond racing forged aluminum pistons, had the internals fully balanced and the crank journals polished. Then finished it off with the following:
Big bore butterflies, ported primary and secondary intake runners, 5-angle valve job, adjusted the valve lash, Pro-M 80mm MAF with high flow intake, Midwest SHO high flow Y-pipe, Fidanza flywheel, SPEC Stage 2+ clutch kit, ported throttle body, APS under-drive pulley kit, Walbro 190 lb/hr fuel pump, reinforced differential and new half-shafts, SHOrt shifter, Tokico Struts, Intrax lowering springs, Moog lower control arms, aluminum subframe bushings, TPR control arm and strut rod busings, and probably a good couple of other things that I'm forgetting. Needless to say, it was a nasty little N/A SHO haha.
The new block ended up having a broken oil ring that scored the cylinder, so I had to tear the new 3.3 motor back down and get another block. I hadn't really had a chance to drive the car because it was smoking so bad, and after almost 2 years of working on this engine swap (the engines sat in the machine shops for months before the work was done) I finally had the second 3.3 motor in and running just fine. Was tearing up the streets down in Florida with the car and some old idiot hit me (back in March of this year) head-on less than a month after getting the car back out on the road again. The car got totaled and I finally got my settlement check a few weeks ago. I provided just over $11k in receipts on non-maintenance items that I've spent on the car to the claims adjuster of the other guy's insurance company, only to get a check for $3,200 back. The car was in awesome condition and I loved the hell out of that car.
I did get to keep the car, and it's now in my garage up here in Md. The engine wasn't touched in the accident so I'll be parting out one bad-ass SHO motor here soon. But after that car got totaled I didn't want to spend all that money in buying another one and trasferring over all of those parts, so I recently bought the '96 for a damn good price and after I get the brakes and oil leak(s) taken care of it'll make for a pretty decent daily driver compared to the last SHO. Well, now you all know the long history on my beloved '92 SHO haha.
