haha damn man didnt know that was you. whats up. Yes im doing all the work myself.. I would invite people over to help and just enjoy but no one will want to.. it will be like 30 degrees and im doing it outside because i cant find anyone to loan me some garage space.. I used to have a garage when i bought the swap but i just moved to leonardtown and now no garage.. oh well it will be one cold ass project but well worth it in the end..

Welcome Kyle.
You will love those BC coils. Myself and kazimierz3000 both have them and they rock!

Looks like you had Trinity in the SRT Caliber with you all. Good luck to you on that one.

Becuase Rons a semi-bitter former SRT-4 owner:) Nah, not really, his point, I think, is that all those parts working together in harmony isnt going to easy to achieve. Could be a constant peak and tweak just to keep it happy.

Maybe not, not telling til she's in and running, of course. And some folks like the constant fiddling, and that's fine.

krc21
12-09-2008, 12:44 AM
oh lol.. well im already working on a tune with nemo from down at rage tek on the diablosport.. I have only heard good things about it.. im not really sure what would need to be continually tinkered with but mhmm.. oh well. i sure think it will be pretty fun... once i get all the bugs worked out with this i plan on going agp stage four and making anywhere from 500-550 hp with my stupid little neon sxt should be a fun project but no sucking balls.. ron that goes for you.. :p

kazimierz3000
12-09-2008, 01:49 AM
Beware of traction or the lack thereof, I'm around 350hp/370tq on drag radials and there's no grip until the end of 2nd or 3rd...in warm weather. TQ+FWDFTMFL. One of the many factors contributing to why Ron went RWD.

Yeah, theres a limit to how far its practical to go with FWD, tractionwise. Unless your running slicks all the time. I know on street tires (summer only tires, about a 220 treadwear) that the 310 or so of Stage 3 was about the limit with those, going into HOM mode, which put me about where Kaz is, made street tires a joke.

As for the tinkering, it might not be the case. But do be ready if it is. Unlike manufacturer parts, which are exhaustivley tested to work with each other, aftermarket stuff isnt tested that exhaustively with stock stuff, let alone all the other parts.

Working with Nemo is a great start though, the man knows his stuff.

Floyd

floyd when did you get bcs? i thought you had tokico with pro kit?
Used to. I got the BCs on when it was still fairly warm outside.

krc21
12-09-2008, 10:20 AM
hey kazi you should get the h brace and traction bar setup from bwoody.. i know they have mixed reviews but they really do help alot.. I have ridden in a big turbo srt with them and without them both had coilovers and i felt a huge difference in the way it grabbed..

oh also a big help with traction is the solid lca bushings from rag tek... they arnt cheap though

Floyd
12-09-2008, 10:25 AM
At about 300Hp you are going to have traction issues.
Even with traction bars Chess's old SRT-4 spun bad if you got on it on the street.

I wouldnt shoot for more than 350 tops for a Neon. Anymore and its just pointless. It becomes a tire shredder.

Skyle
12-09-2008, 10:26 AM
Thats why you need a good boost controller... limit boost in low gears so you dont blow up the tires. Quite a few high hp cars have lost to lesser cars because they brag about all the hp they have with no way to control it and get it to the ground. At the very least run BFG's or ET Streets... I run BFG's as my street tire and I can cut 1.8 60' on them.

Ron just sold his SRT-4 because he got scared of my VW... :D

krc21
12-09-2008, 10:33 AM
yeah that was another thing that i was going to say... there are lots of possibilitys with the srt... I dont know what the viper would run at the track but the red sled srt runs 9.31s pretty regularly.. Dogbox transmission and all but still.. the possibilitys are there.. and his car is street legal if he takes off the slicks.. which i guess in turn you guys would be correct.. no traction on the street.. but street racing is :violent1:

Mach
12-09-2008, 10:47 AM
Welcome. Looking at your project, I'm kinda confused. What are you doing that'll give you 500 HP?

krc21
12-09-2008, 10:50 AM
lol no.. the project once with the diablo should make anywhere from 275-300 i need a couple more fuel mods to hit 300.. but probably by next christmas i will be going big turbo.. then to make 500hp.. it all depends really.. i might just keep it how i will have it.. it will be a great little daily driven sleeper.. also a measly 100 shot of nitrous would help it at the track.. and if i were to have my turbo ported and clipped i could probably get up to the 350hp mark which you guys are saying to stay at..

Mach
12-09-2008, 11:02 AM
Don't listen to them. The more power the better!

Floyd
12-09-2008, 12:20 PM
Good luck...
Its a tall order for a DD thats why I sold everything I had so I could put it towards a car worth modding.

krc21
12-09-2008, 03:26 PM
yeah the sxt is terrible to mod.. my car will be an srt 4.. i bought a wrecked srt that was hit in the rear it was completely stock and had 16,000 miles and i am swaping over everything.. i mean everything.. so i will be modding an srt not an sxt and from the research i have done these cars are actually pretty good modding cars if you do it right.. the fact that mine is the sxt body will make it even more unique.. thats my thinking anyways..

Its been done many times.

krc21
12-09-2008, 05:51 PM
never said it hadnt been done.. its just way more unique then alot of other so called ricers or whatever you want to call them.. I just cant wait till i go to some little meet they have at target.. I drove by once and saw a couple decent looking cars so i stopped tried to say hi and everyone pretty much shit on me blah blah you have a shitty neon.. that pretty much motivated me to make my stupid little shitty neon something.. also i was wrong about the street legal srt.. its not 9.32 its 7.90 @ 188 so i would say thats a pretty impresive shitty little neon

Floyd

Yea but they put alot of moola into that car.
I just came to the point where I came to sense that making my Neon fast was just a waste when I could spend a 3rd of the cash and have a quick RWD car.

Yeah I know about the 9 sec car... old news.

Did he step his game up and run 7's or is he talking about a different car?

Also was that 7 run legal for any class or just a no holds barred rip down the track. Tire size, turbo size, weight, etc...

Floyd
12-10-2008, 10:26 AM
IDK about that 7.90 @ 188 either...
Ill talk to James and see what he says.
Fastest I know of is 9.316 @ 161.47.

IDK about the redsled going high 7s.

Your talking about DCRs drag SRT-4 going 7.90 @ 188 then. Not the redsled.
Im still waiting on James to reply and let me know the redsleds fastest time.

krc21
12-10-2008, 12:55 PM
yes that is correct and im pretty sure you have the lowest time of the red sled.. 9.31

Floyd

Im unsure what your talking about now...

The time you posted 7.90 @ 188 was not from the redsled.
Yes it was a SRT-4 but it wasnt the redsled, it was DCRs drag SRT.

EDIT: James who is on the redsled team just gave me the fastest numbers...
Bayshore Power (Redsled) 9.316 @ 156.50

Mike C in the DCR hotrod that ran a 7.90 @ 188
He said the fastest was Shaun Carlson going 7.5 in the DCR Pro FWD car

No its a Pro FWD car.
You can see the pic of it here: http://www.dcrsrt.com/
Its in the center bottom. The redsled is in the upper right.

Gotcha... 9.31 is moving for a grocery getter :D

I'm all about street cars, dedicated drag cars dont impress me that much because anything goes at that point. I know "street car" is now given a loose interpretation but if you can drive it to the track and run a number... props good sir!! Even better if you can do it on the same tires you drove in with!

Whats up with that DCR twin turbo kit for a 4cyl? Really... Why Bother?

krc21
12-10-2008, 03:38 PM
yeah sorry for the confusion floyd.. i was just agreeing with what you were saying.. the street legal car ran 9.316 the 7.88 or whatever i posted was for the drag car.. i was just saying that the neon has possibilitys..

Floyd

Yea any car has potential with money...
Heck the trans in the redsled was $7700 alone. Not including the stroker kit and everything else

Thats actually not that bad for a built streetable trans... you can easily have $5k or more in a street trans and if you step up to a Quaife box you can spend $20k in a heartbeat. If your going to run a twin disk clutch factor in another $1500-1700.

Most of the Domestic teams run Lenco's that are in the $5-15k range..

Yea.
For the Neon it costs too much for so little, And in the end its still only FWD.

I would love your car though Brian :) Thats what im looking for, for my next vehicle to tinker on.

Yea.

WTF? The Neon, especially the SRT has some of the cheapest boltons that give the highest return on investment. Other cars could only hope to have similair performance for the price.

FWD really isn't a limiting factor, the driver is the limiting factor. You can cut 1.6 60' on a FWD car with the right tires. Most people just give up on learning how to drive. I can cut 1.8 60' on my street tires in a FWD with a totally stock drivetrain.

The SRT yes.
Regular Neons no.
03+ Neons HELL NO.
I even have dyno proof that my few bolt ons did absolutely nothing but waste my money.

I just want a car that I can feel or even see on a dyno that I got something for my money.

krc21
12-10-2008, 04:58 PM
yeah 03 neons and up with ngc are worthless to mod.. unless you go with megasquirt then they can be somewhat fun.. the 00-02 are ok to mod but when i weighed my options the srt swap was the most cost effective way to go..

Skyle

I meant the regular Neon guys can do an SRT swap and it would still be cheaper then modifying most cars.

Its very well known that boltons do very little to small displacement N/A engines. You need to raise compression, add big cams, headwork etc.. to get the little buggers making any decent N/A HP. Most people just skip straight to taking the easy way out and go F/I..

Gvnt, yep, but I dont think contractor. Now, contractors can spend $200 and become some sort of member of the Officers Club, which allows them to use MWR facilities, but ordinarily, they are not. Lots of contractors, like myself, are also retired military, and that might fool some folks.
