Hey there.
Just found this website and thought I would join so I could get involved in some of the local meets and events. I have been living in the area since April of 2008. I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO with Heads, Cam and pretty much all the bolt ons available.
Hopefully as the weather gets warmer I can meetup with some of you around town at some meets.

Good to see another Goat! Those are great numbers for an 04! Well even good for the 05-06! What intake manifold is that? Typhoon?
Whats your screen name on the LS1 forums? Mine is BLOWNED, don't post much as I am new to the GTO scene. I just got an 06 BOM A4 over the summer, so I just have limited mods so far. Will be looking for you on the roads and at MIR.

I hear you. I spotted you on 235 as I was making my U-Turn to go into Sheetz. The SRT hood always catches my eye, then as I was getting out of the car I saw you pull up, I thought about commenting on the car as it is a sweet looking ride but food took priority. I'll make sure to say something next time. :)

Could have been, I was out a lot yesterday. If it was me then you would probably remember the racket the car was making as it's kind of obnoxiously loud at this point with the cam lope.

It's a FAST 90mm intake that is painted silver, which is why it looks weird. I love BOM's, the color is pure sex. My wife wants one bad. My screenname over on LS1gto is Blackbat just like here, and I'm Blackbat23 over on Ls1tech. If you ever plan on doing any mods to it, let me know, I'll come over and wrench on it with you.

I had a 86 IROC Z28, loved that car. Had the 5.0 motor but it was my first experience with Camaros. I'm not gonna lie, it was a bucket. lol. But it got me hooked on modding cars in the fact that it had so much potential but I just never had the money to do it. I sold it awhile ago, then moved onto a 1996 Ford Probe, then onto a 2004 Dodge Ram Sport SLT, then to the GTO. In between those I had a 67 Camaro that I plannedon fixing up but ended up being WAY more work than I bargained for.
Here are the few pics I have of it.

I was a bit north of you up in Stockton, in the San Joaquin Valley. About an hour from Sacramento and an hour and a half from San Francisco. I used to drive down I-5 twice a month and pass through Fresno on my way down to LA (what a nasty city) for work.

Welcome, nice GTO!!
I plan on a lot of the same mods since I just got a G8. Anyone know any good tuners around here using HPtuners or otherwise? I already put on a Magnaflow x-pipe catback and looking to get a New Era OTR intake, cam, etc.. but don't want to do too much until I can find someone that can tune it to actually take advantage of the mods.

I don't know of any good LSx tuners in our immediate area, and believe me, I looked. Hopefully someone else does or one comes along sooner or later though.
Here are the shops that I considered when I did my Heads/Cam install.
Behe Performance (Formerly Lucky Dog Garage) - Glen Burnie, MD
ELD Performance - Millersville, MD
Performance Specialties - Glen Burnie, MD (Recently heard some horror stories about them though)
Tony Corvette's - Gaithersburg, MD
EB3 Motorsports - Chantilly, VA
LSx Tune - Richmond, VA
VA Speed - Virginia Beach, VA
Fbody Central - Baltimore, MD
I'm sure there are a ton more that tune our engines but these are the ones that I got feedback on from local GTO/Fbody owners that had actually used them. Some had mixed reviews, as any shop/tuner would but most of them were favorable.
When I finally got my mods done, I ended up driving 200 miles away to Portsmouth, VA to a shop called The HP Factory. I was extremely happy with them as they were worth the 4 hour (one way) trip.
If you don't mind longer drives, I would say you can go to Vengeance Racing in GA or to CAM in NC. Hope that helps.
If you're only going to run drag radials, I would suggest putting some weight in the rear of the car like a full sized wheel and tire that's normally on the car. You'd be surprised how much it actually helps.

I have heard of HP Factory since I'm from down that way. Might just have to drive down. Decent prices and quick turnaround?
I heard about jeff or jon or something like that at PSI was good with Hptuners... but if its gone downhill then that sucks.
Isn't Behe performance a Pedders dealer? Thinking of starting out with the rear subframe/diff/front inserts to tighten things up.
Thanks!

I'm putting some damplifier and luxury liner in the back half of the car which helps with sound (stereo and road noise) but also keeps the weight low. We dont have a spare from the factory just an air compressor and the battery and weight distribution is damn good at 50/49 so only a few pounds are needed out back to even it up.

I was more so talking to BlackBat about getting traction for the 1/4.... RWD 0/100 weight distrbution is best LOL, but that's not exactly possible.

He did my Heads/Cam install for $1500 and that included street tuning as well as dyno tuning. My final bill was more as I added some porting, clutch, lifters, etc... but his prices are very reasonable. I dropped it off on Saturday and picked it up the next Saturday but he had the whole thing done by that Wednesday.
Behe is a Pedders dealer and they are the only ones I know of around these parts unless you go to Rocksand Racing over in Jersey. From what I hear Behe does great work but their prices are also on the high end. They deal with a lot of high end imports as well so their prices reflect that. But I have heard nothing but good things. I love my Pedders setup, it has made the drive in this boat far more fun and tighter. If I had to do it over again though I would have gone with a more aggressive setup. Something like a Track II setup, along with lowering the ride height. My future plans including picking up their XA system which is fully adjustable and lowering this beast a bit.

I was planning on throwing some drag radials on the stock rims and seeing how she does. But I think you're right, throwing the spare/jack/all that other crap back in the trunk might help traction a bit. Although this thing is already a fat ass, which is why I took all that out to begin with. I think I'll try a run with and without, see which works better.
One of the huge downsides of the newer GTO's is the lack of tire you can fit without doing any modifications to the wheel wells. 275's is about all the width I can manage currently.

haha fair enough... I'll make some 1/4 passes but it handles pretty dang good for a sedan so I have no intentions of ruining that. Actually pretty amazed that this car exceeds the E55 AMG it replaced in almost every way!

That's good to hear! I have no problem installing the rear inserts myself but I saw you needed a pretty decent hydraulic press for the front suspension bushings so I figured I would have behe do those. Probably have to head south for my cam install and tune once I get the other bolt ons done. Getting all the little stuff out of the way now... tint, stereo, paint match, smoked lights, etc..
See you around once it gets warmer!
Peddlers is amazing stuff... some of its reasonable...
there is alot of it thats just retarded expensive !!

Yeah for sure... VERY stout for the 5.7! Most head/cam LS1 goats get maybe 425-440 rwhp on a Dynojet, so very respectable.
Yeah those of you asking for LSx tuning I'd recommend BEHE. John, the owner, is an extremely intelligent guy and can tune anything from a weed-eater to a Ferrari, and does it better than no other. I had my GTO tuned there late last year and the car drove like Cadillac when just casually driving, and screamed after John worked his tuning magic. I'll be going back to him for my tune after I get the twins installed. As someone else said, they are a little on the higher side for labor and tuning pricing but they do phenominal work that no one else can match. I sent several people over his way for stuff and they were extremely pleased with everything. It's better to pay a little more to get it done right the first time.
For parts, check out MarylandSpeed(.com). They stock a bit of stuff and they can get everything else within just a few days to your door. Best pricing around on LSx stuff, and free shipping on many products they sell. I used to work there and I'll tell you that you'll get some awesome service and the best pricing around from them.

is the LS1 in the GTO different than the LS1 in the vettes? we had a head/cam LS1 vette make 502 last week that Phil tuned. made 460 after another shop tuned it, 460 on its first pull here with the old tune, and 502 all said and done. next is 150 shot haha

Z06 C5 or just a base C5? If it's a Z06 then it was actually a LS6 which has different Heads/Cam that bump the engine output to 405HP as opposed to the LS1 which has 350HP. If it's a base C5 then they are pretty much the same. Vette's usually put down more HP than GTO's due to less drivetrain loss, same goes for the Fbody cars, they put down better dyno numbers even with the same mods.
500+rwhp out of an LS1, vette or not is an awesome number. What were the mods on that engine? Stock cubed 346? Any drivetrain mods?

Yep, Rick hit the nail on the head with that one... our cars show a little less RWHP on the dyno than a Vette due to our crappy independant rear suspension.
On top of our power-sucking IRS, I have a 4L60E automatic transmission with a 3200 stall converter.... so it's going to make it that much tougher to see my RWHP goal under low boost once we get everything fabbed up for my car Joe. It's not the best combination for producing RWHP numbers, but it usually does it's job at the track. We'll make it happen though I'm sure :)
