at the risk of being banned for asking.. why is the money being donated your email addy? also how do we know it is up for renewal? how do we know that it is being renewed? id like to see some sort of proof of this before i blindly put money into a personal paypal account

I can back him up on this, i used to have a domain and a forum (Floyd knows all about that) and he is right about the costs. And its a pain in the ass to make a seperate accnt for the site on PayPal, although it isnt a bad idea

that is where i am confused though.. i did have a domain and i did run a forum.. it never really got anywhere but i did open a new email addy and also a new paypal account and posted all tranaction recipts online for them to see.

True... it does add up to run a forum. Figure whatever your domain costs (varies depending on where you register), VB software is like $180 for a license then $60 a year, then hosting fees which vary as well usually depending on if you want a dedicated or shared server and how much bandwidth you need.

And thats assuming everyone helping is volunteering to donate their time at $0.00 an hour... some larger forums have paid staff to maintain them but at that point its thousands of users rather then 100.

I don't really see whats shady about it. If you use the forums on a regular basis I think its fair to chip in a few duckets to cover your interwebs real estate :D

again... what is shady is the lack of hey guys our site is about to expire (link to proof here, but wasnt) so donate to my personal paypal account.

Saves headaches and money in the long run. Even if someone posted information you would just take that and run with it?

well, once my site opens, if i ask for a donation i will post all info beforehand. i will be using my business accounts not my personal. and yeah i always tripple check. but with this, i was simply saying the info should have been ready it should have been posted, and it should not have gone to steve your a retard, you dont know how to run a site, you dont know code, you cant search.. it should have been here you go.. sorry for the confusion.. but now that ship has sailed.

thanks for the bit of luck. it isnt easy but it is far from imposible. got my "team" of progamers working on the mian page now, and forums next week. the site should be up and bugs worked out by july

I just think it's stupid that your giving ron so much shit about trying to keep a forum running. What the he'll ever happened to trusting people of doing a search if you think he is lying about fees. The money was payed no problem and you didn't donate any money so I don't know why your making such a big deal. It's not a liberal thing, ron simply said that the site was up for renewal and asked for money to be donated so we can have these dunbass conversations on line. I thinks it's stupid as shit to almost attack someone for this when all he is trying to do is keep the site up and running, if you don't trust that he is using money correctly then don't donate and keep your thoughts about him being a scammer to your conservative self. When you say you don't believe he is spending correctly and that he is trying to rip us off it just makes you look dumb because no one else here got there damn panties in a bunch because we all know it's something that needs to be done so we can all enjoy the site.

There are plenty of other maryland forums, may not just be "somd" but really how HUGE do you expect a "somd" forum to really get if you are only encluding st. mary's calvert and charles, because that is "somd".

People will go to forums no matter what, hell i belong to 3 DSM' sites, 2 wrx forums, countless honda forums, Trying to have "events" ok How many meets have been set up on this site? how many people showed up? I have never asked for donations until its needed like a more stable forum board, and to renew....

I would love see this site thrive, i see alot of cars which are owned by great people all around the county we just need to get the message out. THis is a great place to organize meets, gatherings and keep in touch since alot of us are friends. Granted i havent been out in well a long f-ing time, and i havent met half the people on the site i still consider everyone my friend.

I have almost seen this site die at least 10 times, and every year like it was pointed out this same thing happens, its pointless, its stupid and it drives away people.

Ron its impossible to please everyone and oi have seen people leave sties usually the cry babies make huge deals about stupid crap and try to either get banned or just disrupt everyone for one reason or another. The real men just leave, dont look back or give a damn.

Keep this shit going i like being able to connect with people from around the county, maybe get some good meets or cruises going.
