Hey,

A buddy of mine is on this forum, and I've wanted to join for a while. problem was, my car was "in the middle" of being re-done and I didn't want to be talking shit while I had nothing to back anything up with.

I have two cars.
1986 Volvo 760 Turbo. The car is stock except the muffler was deleted once it rusted away, has a Forge 007 recirc valve instead of the pierburg junk that came stock, and it has a manual boost controller. The car has 272,000 miles on it, runs like a champ. Occasionally I'll drop a tank of premium in it and turn the boost up, but generally it runs around at the stock 7psi. Best I ever ran at 15psi was 15.1@88mph. That was last summer with the muffler and stock recirc valve. If I were to run it again, I'd probably get a 15.1@89 or something due to less restrction. Car isn't too loud or anything.
The thing is a turd though. I'm an asshole and rear-ended someone this winter, so until I find a black hood and fender, the hood/fender is a beat-up blue color...
And the other car...
1982 Volvo 242 Turbo.
I bought this car a few years back, virtually rust free, not running, and pretty-well fucked...

I won't go into the big story, but it's ALMOST back on the road. Since last summer (last time it was running)....
Re-wired the entire chassis harness using ebay "painful" harness
Wired the tail lights for sequential turns
Dropped in a non-turbo b230f (2.3 8valve) Drilled for oil return and slapped on a holset HE351.
Cosworth-RS500 aftermarket intercooler from ebay
MegasquirtII 3.0 board standalone
Mustang T5 trans/custom driveshaft
Custom turbo log-manifold
4 inch exhaust outlet reduces to three half way down the downpipe
1000cc injectors
Walbro 255
Full VDO vision gauges, including speedo, tach, oil pressure, oil temp, boost, yadda yadda
Innovate LC-1 wideband.

Two years ago at 14psi with a small t3/t4 I ran a 14.8@98. It's come a LONG way since. I hope for one of two things this summer. I blow the hell out of the 9.8:1 non-turbo bottom end, or I run a mid 13. Either will thrill me.

Here's a pic of it a few years back. Pretty much looks the same, except it has that center cap now
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z239/Misterbill_17/0513061240.jpg
A pic of the engine bay, which is all that matters in this junker
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z239/Misterbill_17/242%20progresion%20and%20regression/DSC00356.jpg

Probably lots of other stuff. I don't see a projects thread in this forum, or if there is... where is it lol?

The car looks like a turd. Since last summer I really have just done the wiring, motor, and turbo-stuff. The rest I had done since that summer. The trans shifts amazing, drives great, lowered with bilstienHD shocks/struts etc. Thick sways, rear poly bushings, it's endless.

So, at the machine shop right now I have a 2.5 stroker motor almost ready with 16valve head, VolvoPenta cams, and a bunch of other goodies. it will probably be this time NEXT year that all that gets done, but I'm excited.

Besides my car, I'm a computer janitor for Wyle labs on the base. I have a clearance so I don't plan on getting in fights, crazy street races, or snorting coke.

Hope to see some of you guys out there soon. And someone push me to a projects subforum?

Thanks. There's a bunch north of here and out in Nova. I regularly hang out with em, but I figure you guys are a bit closer.

They really are fun cars. Never quite as fast as you hope, but in the world of turbo cars, DAMN easy to mod and swap stuff. Not a big aftermarket, but you can get anything you want for the right price.

I see a grudge match between you and Porsche944Turbo.

something tells me he'll lap me in the corners and I'll roll by him in the straights once I get my 16 valve motor done. Till then I bet he'll have it all. I saw a few posts by him and I look forward to seeing the car. All aluminum 2.5 turbo wins.

I had a friend with a 944 non-turbo and it really did drive well. Too bad those motors have equally pathetic headflow as the volvos :-(

And what are the specs of the 944? I freakin love those cars.

Also a mild update, got the manifold and downpipe wrapped last night, as well ass the DSM coil ignitor wired to my flying-lead megasquirt harness. Tonight I plan on getting the coils, ford VR sensor, IAT, CLT and TPS sensor wired. This way I can hook up megasquirt to 12v and see what sensors are saying what and I can try to crank it over without fuel to see if my cobbled-together ignition system is working.
The car uses DSM/Hyundai coil packs and ignitor. The nice part about the system is the ignitor has a built-in tach drive so you can wire up any normal tachometer and have it work without issues. Usually altered wasted-spark setups are plagued with poor tach readings or no tach readings at all.

Edit: and I'm sure you guys all think a volvo is a big joke. And for the most part, mine is. here are some I aspire to be, and soon that goal will be met.
This motor is much like one I hope to build. Nothing crazy, but I have everything to make this happen.

This is Rob's 242, well the second half of the video. It's best 1/4 time is 11.8@114 and that was with a stock 8v head. He's got some $$$ head on there with a new bottom end nearing completion. He's from silver spring.

Here's some Volvo 850. The 5 cylinder in these cars in no-doubt my most favorite sound to come from a car. Unfortunately that motor was never available in a RWD platform. They're also a bit more complex than the old SOHC and DOHC "redblock" motors I deal with.

242 With about 100 more horsepower than I hope to achieve, but

Thats a quick sobYou saw it overheat after the burn out contest and then me drain the battery trying to restart it. I jumped it and drove it home the same night. Dumb idea to enter. I won't ever do that again without at least upgrading my radiator and fan.

ah well very-good then. I suppose it's difficult to cool 600 horsepower:lol:

Yeah... I was only holding it at like 4500 RPM's in high gear and the temp was ok while burning out. It didn't over heat until I stopped and pulled it over to the other side of the wall. Then the temp rose FAST.

bummer. Updates:

okay okay okay

progress:
It looks a bit like a mess, but what's happening is sooo clean and win.

Today:
Bryan is wiring a bunch of the harness. Coils wired, TPS wired, injectors in progress, IAC soon.

I finished the oil lines, got the alt exciter wired. I am worried it will "run off" without a diode wired in, but I'm going to try it this way first.

Got manifold actually bolted in.

Welcome!!! Holy Shit man, I love 242's!!! I just saw a fairly nice one for sale I think in NOVA...maybe you have met him....it was an 84 242 Turbo, bright red with black wheels, nice suspension set-up - coilovers I think, a lot of restoration....the 4 eyes headlights??? It looked real nice and I would have loved to pick that up and swapped another motor into it. He even mentioned that he was planning on swapping in a 1JZ into it.

We'll have to meet up so I can see your car in person, maybe get an ACTUAL meet going and people ACTUALLY showing up.

Nice sleeper! I love projects like this!! I helped a buddy of mine drop a turbo'd 2JZ motor in his Toyota Cressida a few years back.... such a wolf in sheep's clothing haha. Hope the project comes together nicely!

Sounds awesome. I probably need another three or four weeks to get it running, another month or so to get it tuned and the interior re-assembled. Look forward to meeting you.

Yeah, it scares the hell out of me. Hopefully the wrap on the manfiold and the little condom on the wires will keep everything okay.

Love the cressidas. There was a 5speed one at the junkyard a few months ago. woulda been a great sleeper.
