Making a new thread to keep track of the rebuild of my 2002 Trans Am WS6. Car got vandalized and got some insurance $ to fix everything like new. Car went to JT Restorations in Deale for paint and body work, interior is getting done at Bay Upholstery in Annapolis, so far had nothing but good work from both places. I'll be adding pictures as work gets done

they are going to be taking everything off before sanding, in those pics they just put bondo on my key marks and sanded that down to be smooth, that havent started removing stuff yet, they will when they go to sand they whole car.

Well, at our shop we take EVERYTHING apart on a car in your situation before any body filler "bondo" goes on it. You risk damaging parts even further by sanding with them on. Like the trail lights could easliy get scratched. And why was body filler even needed? Should be able to sand the scratches out and then primed. Granted some will be deeper, but it looks like they filled every scratch.
Well, the finished product is what counts. MAKE SURE they take the car apart when they paint it, you don't want a MAACO job!

He didn't mention the broken doors until after someone asked how he got in. The story makes no sense at all. The fact that he already posted his buddy in his new car club does custom airbrushing and painting for cheap and he's getting new aftermarket wheels and custom upholstry should be obvious.

because they have a set limit they can spend on fixing it (75% of worth) by LAW they can not give any more then that, after painting whats left of insurance $ is not enough to have my interior restored, so i could either A) Take the car as is with fucked interior B) Total it, buy the car back and have it fixed out of pocket, with a salvage title.

I dont have $ to buy it back and have it fixed and also I cant get full coverage with a salvage title, and if i get hit insurance looks at the title, they dont have to pay ANYTHING if it has a salvage title on it. so im screwed. Also The car will be worth about 1/3 of what its worth, so if i sell it then im fucked. Most dealerships wont even take a car on a trade in if it has a salvage title. and i dont want a car thats only half done cuz i dont have $ to fix the rest. So I had them total it and give me the $18,000 ill pay of the rest of the loan which is 16,xxx.

Car was done paint. And nope completely stock paint job. I had them do the CETA mod which is just a black piece on the bumper but was NO extra $. I have $ but i'm not dishing out $7000 from my pocket for a car thats half done and that has a salvage title on it THEN pay $5000 for the interior and rims to be fixed. Would you?

Tell the insurance company to call Keystone for refurbished wheels( they should have already done this) or let you get cheaper aftermarket rims. Tell them you DON"T want it totalled. I don't see how they can, being its already repaired. I don't care what the law states. The bodyshop will have to take the lose. They shoulda told the insurance company of any difference in the estimate. If its more, oh well, thats their fault. They needed to pinch pennies or something. I mean it was a simple paint job. Not like there was any real damage. So where was the overruns??

Just blending over the key marks (it's obvious in the progress pictures) and doing a new clear coat over the whole car. I could have that done to my car for about $2,500 or less. Hell, I could have everything looking like new for less than 5K.

My car was totalled in '07. The estimate was about 15.5K to get fixed. I spent $12K and got my entire car back together along with a supercharger kit and side exhaust. My car was damaged WAY WAY WAY WAY more than this car. The $ figures he is putting up is laughable.

car was totaled, paint place took more money then they needed cuz there greedy fucks and now not enough $ to pay the interior people. deciding on wether or not to buy the car back. giving us 18k, have 16k to pay on loan and they want 7k for the car that still needs $4000 worth of work, fuck.

because they have a set limit they can spend on fixing it (75% of worth) by LAW they can not give any more then that, after painting whats left of insurance $ is not enough to have my interior restored, so i could either A) Take the car as is with fucked interior B) Total it, buy the car back and have it fixed out of pocket, with a salvage title.

I dont have $ to buy it back and have it fixed and also I cant get full coverage with a salvage title, and if i get hit insurance looks at the title, they dont have to pay ANYTHING if it has a salvage title on it. so im screwed. Also The car will be worth about 1/3 of what its worth, so if i sell it then im fucked. Most dealerships wont even take a car on a trade in if it has a salvage title. and i dont want a car thats only half done cuz i dont have $ to fix the rest. So I had them total it and give me the $18,000 ill pay of the rest of the loan which is 16,xxx.

no, they took off the doors and bumpers, sanded the entire car down and repainted the entire thing, the paint job is much more expensive then what is a regular car, and your right, i coulda went and got my paint and seats for much cheaper, but i wanted it done right and i didnt want to compromise on getting crappy seats, of a half ass paint job, i dont care if the paint job was 8k, i didnt pay for it, why buy shitty used rims when mine were in perfect condition and looked brand new? i need new rims so i want NEW rims, not refurbished or used junk that is not the quality of my rims before the damage, i could have bought shitty used seats or some cheap covers, but why should i because my seats were perfect, same with the paint, people keep bringing up oh you could got a cheap paint job, why should i cheap out on the paint? the one thing everyone notices, the paint was perfect and show quality, im not going to some half ass paint place and them do a $7k for for 3k cuz the half ass it, i went to 5 different plces for a paint estimate, all were within $500 of each other i want the car restored back to its perfect condition. so if thats more expensive then oh well.

Lets change this around for a bit, Mach said he got into an accident in 07, used the $ for a SC and other aftermarket stuff, that = Insurance fraud. You must restore the car as it was before the accident, using the money else where or on more expensive parts is considered insurance fraud.

Why does it matter what the paint cost? The shop charged what they charged? You can not find a good shop to paint that car for less the $6000, I went to Chesapeake collision, winegardner chevy, jt resto, some place of rt2, some place in solomons and some place in huntingtown that restores old cars, EVERY place had the estimate over $6500. You can not find a good shop to paint that car for less the $6000, I went to Chesapeake collision, winegardner chevy, jt resto, some place of rt2, some place in solomons and some place in huntingtown that restores old cars, EVERY place had the estimate over $6500. So i just guess every place i went to sucks and over charges for everything. Oh well

On a final note. I had a friend of mine get his car keyed up pretty bad by a chick he dumped down here and he used it as an excuse to get a new paint job. Less than 3k for a stage 2 like floyds (but a burnt orange in color) that turned out pretty fuckin nice. I've also been quoted a 2-tone job on my hood, roof and trunk lid for less than 1k w/ 2 coats of pearl black and 3 coats of clearcoat. 890 w/ tax.
